SHRM BASK: YOUR MOST POWERFUL RESOURCE

I'm sure you've heard before the importance of reading and comprehending the SHRM BASK. But, for its impressive outlines and cute bullet points, it doesn't seem to offer much in the way of "study" information. That's because the BASK is not a sufficient source for learning the material. Still, it is your ultimate guide in determining what you should learn. 

The SHRM BASK divides each competency cluster and knowledge domain by area. Each bullet point then identifies the fundamental concepts of these areas. Amazingly, these essential concepts tell you precisely what information you should extract from your study material. The key concepts tell the learner, "this is the information you should focus on ." Therefore, when you sit down to study, you should often refer to the key concepts to ensure a firm understanding of each concept outlined in the bullet points. 

Next, the BASK outlines proficiency indicators. There are two indicators: proficiency indicators for all HR professionals and proficiency indicators for advanced professionals. As you might have guessed, the proficiency indicators for all professionals are for every person sitting for the exam. The proficiency indicators for advanced professionals are specific to those sitting for the senior-level exam. Every exam question links to these indicators. When reading the question, you must decide which multiple-choice answer most effectively demonstrates the proficiency indicators in each competency or knowledge question.

For example, under the influence of sub-competency, one of the proficiency indicators in the leadership cluster reads, "Advocates for the implementation of evidence-based HR solutions ."When evaluating answers, you must choose the answer that demonstrates evidence-based solutions. This means the answer you choose should show data gathering and data advocacy. It should be based on evidence-based data such as surveys, market data, or other valid and reliable organizational documents. Correct answers will reflect the use of such.
